We are Thankful ...

The past few weeks Gan Bet has been preparing for our wonderful Thanksgiving feast that we celebrated yesterday with the entire Early Childhood Department. We wore our Native American clothing. We decorated our vests and wore our headdress with our special Native American names on them. We wore our pattern necklaces. Once we were dressed, we had a parade and sang songs on our way to our yummy feast. We sang "Adamah, V'shamayim", " This Land is Your Land", and " The Turkey Ran Away". Then we sat at the table with yummy treats that all the classes prepared and cooked. Before we began our feast, we made Brachot to thank HaShem for the delicious treats. We ate blondies, rice krispy treats, oatmeal cookies, corn, pumpkin cake and apple juice. Then we sang songs. The children had a wonderful time. The children are excited to bring home their Native American clothing and wearing them at their family Thanksgiving Feast!

Thanksgiving Fun With Gan Bet!

Gan Bet has been hard at work preparing for Thanksgiving. Today was our Thanksgiving feast and parade! The children were excited to put on their Native American clothes and join the parade around Yavneh! The Pilgrims also joined the celebration. We paraded with instruments and sang our thanksgiving songs. Our parade ended in the cafeteria where we shared a yummy feast! We had pumpkin bread, squash bread, blondies, corn, popcorn and rice krispie treats. All of the food was prepared by the children.After feasting the children shared their favorite thanksgiving songs. We had a great time!

Waste Not Want Not

Gan Daled was enthralled to learn that Native Americans did not waste anything and found multiple ways to use things. Following this Native American practice, we used corn cobs dipped in paint to make corn prints on our Thanksgiving place mats. We also used corn cobs to play a Native American game where children threw the cobs into a basket. The class husked corn and used the husks as paint brushes to make a colorful mural. We also made a few corn husk dolls for our Discovery Table. Some children extended this beyond the assigned task and designed their own jewelry from the husks.

We re-enacted the Thanksgiving story and had a great time parading around the school in our Pilgrim costumes. We baked to contribute to the feast we enjoyed with the Kindergartens who were dressed up as Native Americans.

Gan Daled Has A Vested Interest in Thanksgiving

At our Math Center this week the children exhibited their keen understanding of patterning. Using manipulatives, they made patterns which they were then able to describe. Following this exciting activity, Gan Daled observed Native American decorations and put their skill of patterning to use by decorating their own vests. The children are looking forward to wearing their vests at our Thanksgiving feast.
