Tefillah Continued

We are in the process of making our Siddurim. We are using many different materials to enhance our Siddur. This makes the tefillot more meaningful and come to life when we daven to HaShem each day. We have learned the Aleph Bet and practice reading Hebrew words each day.The children are eager to use their Siddur and say the Brachot with extra kavanah. They are also excited to work on each new page and sing the songs of the davening. The children are looking forward to completing their Siddur and using it for the rest of the year.

Kol Hamispalel BimKom HaZeh Bi Yerushalayim...

Gan Daled has been learning about Yerushalayim. The children felt that the Kotel is one of the most important places in Eretz Yisrael, since it is the last wall standing of the Beit HaMikdash. Not only do people from all over the world visit the Kotel daily to daven and say special tefillot, they also face Yerushalayim when they daven each day, no matter what part of the world they are in.

We made Mizrach signs to remind us which way we should face when we daven daily.

Gan Gimmel is Blooming!

The flowers are blooming in Gan Gimmel! In our art center, the children worked on beautiful tissue paper flowers today. The children learned that when Hashem gave the Torah on Har Sinai the mountain was covered in beautiful flowers. The children also learned that this is the root of the minhag that some people have to decorate their homes with flowers on Shavuot. They can't wait to bring them home for Shavuot next week!

READY, SET, GO!

One of Yavneh's outstanding days is the annual Benjamin Schwartz Memorial 5K Run & 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk. This fabulous event brings together our  school in an exciting way. The weather was perfect for running or walking and a great way to raise money for Yavneh's scholarship fund.

Imagine our surprise at the end of our Shabbat assembly, when our own Ryan Buchsbayew and Brian Jackson were called up to receive their medals for winning first and second place respectively in the boys ECD division.

Gan Daled is very proud of their accomplishments. Yasher Koach!

Eretz Yisrael Sheli

Over the past month, Gan Daled learned about many important places in Eretz Yisrael.  We began  by learning when Eretz Yisrael became a state  as we celebrated Yom Ha'Atzmaut. We learned about many important places such as Tel Aviv, Tzfat, Ein Gedi, Eilat and touched briefly on Yerushalayim. We then focused our attention on Lag Ba'Omer and Meron. With Yom Yerushalayim  approaching, we turned our focus back  to  learning about Yerushalayim.  Even though we don't live in Eretz  Yisrael we all love and feel like it is our home away from home. We even have a song that incorporates the way we feel here in America called "Israel  Lives in Every Jewish Heart."

Shabbos is coming, we're so happy!

We had a wonderful time at the Erev Shabbat assembly with Rabbi Penn today! Gan Gimmel sang songs and clapped along to the music of keyboard player Binyomin. Rabbi Penn even had an extra special helper take the microphone around to the children to sing. Another highlight was watching our friend Jakey receive his medal from the Yavneh 1 mile fun run. Jakey was in the top three for fastest boys in ECD! Congratulations to all the winners! And Shabbat Shalom to everyone!

Ganon Aleph Geologists

The children in Ganon Aleph became geologists this week when we began our study of rocks.  They used their senses of touch and sight to recognize that rocks come in different, shapes, sizes, and textures.  They learned the difference between igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, and metamorphic rocks.  After learning that rocks can be formed from lava that erupts from volcanoes, we made our own volcano using red food coloring, baking soda, and vinegar.  The children enjoyed collecting rocks outdoors which they used to make their "rock families."  Who knew rocks could be so much fun?!

Challenge Accepted!

Just when we thought we had finished discussing the idea of 

"V'Ahavta L'Reiacha Kamocha",

the children said, "Hey, a great way for us to show friendship would be to bake cookies in the shape of a heart!"

The Morot told the children, "You bring us the cookie cutters,

and we'll all make cookies..."

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

 and we made our cookies!

We took the cookies and used edible markers to write the Hebrew words "sheli" and
"chaver sheli", and decorated our cookies...

When we were finally finished, we chose names of

 our friends and had a "chaverim" cookie exchange!

Shaking in up in Gan Gimmel

Gan Gimmel has been reviewing the Aleph Bet in so many exciting and new ways. This week we played a center game with shakers filled with rice. Similar to the famous find it game "I Spy" the children were given tubes with aleph bet letters hidden inside. The letters were written on white beans. The children had to shake or gently turn the tube to locate the letters of the Aleph Bet. Every time that they found a letter, they marked it off a game board with dry erase markers. The children loved playing this game so much! Yehuda announced "This is so much fun I want to do it again!"

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Nothing like a beautiful sunny day to play baseball! Gan Gimmel and Gan Aleph demonstrated their teamwork skills during a friendly game of tee ball today. Thanks Yavneh Academy for our brand new bats, balls and batting tee. The children are so excited to use it!
