Ganon Aleph Celebrates Lag B'Omer

We had beautiful weather for our Lag B'Omer celebration on Monday.  All of the early childhood classes participated in some friendly competitive relay races organized by Heela and Atara, Yavneh's B'not Sherut Leumi.  We then had an outdoor picnic lunch, after which we played on the giant moon bouncers which were set up on the lawn.  We returned to our classroom where we invited Ganon Bet to join us for storytelling, songs, and s'mores around our "bonfire."  What a fun and busy day we had!!

Ganon Aleph Re-enacts a Lag B'Omer Story

In anticipation of Lag B'Omer the children in Ganon Aleph learned about Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and his son Rabbi Elazar who defied the Romans by hiding in a cave and continuing to teach Torah to Jewish children.  Ganon Aleph decided to re-enact this story with a make-shift cave, picnic blankets, and picnic baskets.  They took turns assuming the roles of the two rabbis, the Romans, and the Jewish children pretending to be having picnics in order to fool the Romans!

Ganon Aleph Celebrates Lag B'Omer

Lag B'Omer was celebrated at Yavneh on Monday.  All of the early childhood classes participated in some fun activites with Dube Zone, including tug-of-war, relay races, and parachute games.  We invited Ganon Bet into our classroom for storytelling, songs, and snacks around the "bonfire." Morah Shani provided glow bracelets and ice cream sandwiches for all of the children.  Now that Lag B'Omer has passed, the countdown to Shavuot begins! 

Lag B'Omer Festivities

Ganon Aleph had a great time celebrating Lag B'Omer!  The children enjoyed a school-wide barbecue, after which they collected sticks and branches for a "bonfire" in our classroom.  Ganon Bet joined us for singing and s'mores around the "fire."  A fun time was had by all!!

In honor of the Lag Ba’Omer we each brought in 33items from our house to share with the class. All 14 children in Ganon Betthought of different things to bring in. They ranged from pencils to gumballsto straws! We each had a chance to count our items with the class and thenglued them down to make a collage . We had fun sharing, counting, and gluingtogether.

"Amar Rabbi Akiva!"

Who can call the name of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai without thinking of his teacher, Rabbi Akiva! Gan Bet learned that Rabbi Akiva taught Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai the secrets of the Torah along with those very famous words, "V'Ahavta L'Reiacha Kamocha". We saught opportunities to put those words into action immediately; children displayed acts of kindness towards their friends, as they picked up after each other, shared toys and games, held the doors open for one another, and shared words of caring and kindness. As a visual representation of our thoughts on the idea "V'Ahavta L'Reiacha Kamocha", the children each illustrated a puzzle piece with pictures of chessed and kindness. We fit all of our pieces together and found that together, they form the ultimate representation of Love and Kindness, a huge heart. Twenty-two faces shined with pride and accomplishment as we gazed upon our final product.

Lag B'Omer Festivities

Despite the gloomy weather, Lag B'Omer was lots of fun! We had a scavenger hunt which led us all around the school, and ended with relay races with Coach Bill in the gym on Tuesday morning. After the children collected twigs and branches, we came back to our classroom for a "bonfire" with Ganon Bet. We ate s'mores and sang songs together around the fire.
