Yummy Applesauce in Ganon Aleph

After peeling and chopping the apples all by themselves, the children added cinnamon and a little water and watched as the apples cooked down into some delicious applesauce.  Yum!!

AN APPLE A DAY . . .

What's red, green and yellow and eaten in Gan Daled?           Apples!

Gan Daled had an apple tasting party. After tasting different colored apples, the children compiled a list of adjectives such as: sour, sweet, juicy, healthy, round and crunchy to describe them.

The class has been graphing the weather daily in a bar graph format. This time they learned to use a tally graph. Each child made a tally mark for their favorite apple.

The winner: green apples.

Cooking with Apples in Ganon Aleph

The children were busy peeling and chopping apples this morning for our delicious applesauce and apple muffins. We bake and cook throughout the year, and the children always prepare, measure, and count the ingredients themselves. There are a lot of math and science skills involved with the preparations. Learning is always fun and delicious in early childhood!!

Gan Aleph's Amazing Apples!

If you walk down the halls of Yavneh and heard some children munching and crunching, it was probably the sound of Gan Aleph tasting apples! This week, Gan Aleph learned aboutapples through literacy, science, math, movement and of course it did not go without some special snacks (like apple jacks)!We learned about apple trees and how they change through the different seasons. After reading The Seasons of Arnold's Apple Tree by Gail Gibbons, the children made their own apple tree seasons book! They used different art materials to depict what the apple tree looks like during the seasons of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.

We played an apple matching game in which the children had to match upper case and lower case letters to complete a full apple shape.

The children tasted red, yellow and green apples and decided which one they liked the best. We wrote about it and we used our math skills to graph their apple choice in a bar graph.

We predicted what would happen if we left a sliced apple out in the classroom. The children will soon begin to see the apple

changing and drying out! When the apple turns dry we will talk

about dried fruit and taste dried apples and apple chips!

We painted trees to go with our apple writings! We encourage you to come visit our outside bulletin board where you will see these beautiful apples!

As Gan Aleph sits down to their table to dip their apples in honey, they will surely be able to tell you some amazing facts about apples! What a delicious week this was!

Rosh Hashana Through Our 5 Senses

Ganon Bet has been busy learning all about Rosh Hashana, what better way to do it than through our senses! We had a chance to use our sense of touch discovering various objects that relate to Rosh Hashana such as shofarot, honey dishes, apples, 2 round challahs, and our fuzzy friend Devora the bee. After learning the hebrew vocabulary for an apple (tapuach), honey (dvash), and bee (devora) we each had a chance to create our very own honey dish. Some of us chose to make an apple and others chose to make a bee. We started with strips of plaster which we dipped in water. We had to cover our dishes and make sure they were smooth. The wet plaster felt ooey and gooey. We can't wait until they dry and we can paint them and finish creating our apples and bees!

Gan Bet Explores

The children met "Auntie Apple" our latest alphabet puppet. They heard the story of Andy and his sister Ann and their adventures in the forest. They met Auntie Apple, who lives in an A shaped cave and has Magic Apples. We created Auntie Apple puppets for our Puppet World.
We have been tasting Fall fruits. this week the children tasdted apricots, plums, pears and pomegranites. They discoved that some fruits have seeds and others have a stone. The best part of the exploration was tasting the fruits.
The children continue to explore the art process. They were very busy painting a large tevah for the class. Their painting was very detailed. they loved painting on the floor on a very large canvas.

Apples

It's apple season in Ganon Bet! We discovered that if you cut an apple in half it's wet, damp or slimy inside. We put lemon juice on half the apple and left the other half alone. We're going to see what happens. We cut different apples in half and counted the seeds inside, some apples had 8 seeds and others had 11. We had a tasting party! We tried a Macintosh apple, Red Delicious, Yellow Golden and a Granny Smith. the apples tasted: juicy, sweet, sour, and crunchy. We made a graph and decided the Granny Smith was our favorite apple.
We measured ourselves with a big apple some of us are tall and others are smaller. We discussed that being the tallest doesn't necessarily mean you are the oldest. Also being the smallest doesn't mean you are the youngest.
Don't forget to look at our bulletin board we rewrote the book Ten Apples Up On Top by Dr.Seuss!
We cut and peeled the apples to make apple sauce for Shabbat party it tasted so good.

Gan Aleph's Apple Adventure

This week, we began our unit on apples. The children sat together and drew what came to their minds when they heard the word apple. They each took a turn to share their drawings and we documented what they already knew about apples.

During center time, the children participated in an apple tasting in which they each tasted a piece of a red, yellow and green apple. The children decided which apple they liked the best and documented it in an apple poem. The poem read “______ compared apples, crunch crunch crunch. _______ liked _____ apples, munch munch munch.” They colored their apple accordingly and are eager for their work to be displayed on our outside bulletin board.
