Chanukah is Coming!!

If it's Kislev, that means Chanukah is coming soon!!  The discovery table in Ganon Aleph's classroom is filled with different kinds of chanukiyot, dreidels, candles, and Chanukah felt pieces for the children to touch and explore.  There has been a lot of counting, classifying, problem-solving, and socializing going on around this table!

Chanukah, Oh Chanukah

The past two weeks have been fun-filled and busy getting ready for the wonderful Chag of Chanukah.

Check out how the yeladim of Gan Daled made Chanukiyot:

First, they sanded the wood.

Next, each child designed a Yaacov Agam styled Chanukiya according to their liking.

Then they painted in smocks & smiles.

They proudly display the finished Chaukiyot!

The children busy decorating the Chanukah themed trivets.

The children enjoyed playing "Human Dreidel"!

Creating Chanukiyot out of Lego and

playing Chanukah matching during activity time.

Making yummy Chanukah Chocolates! Yum Yum!
Wait for it- there is more fun to come!

How Many Candles?!!

Ganon Bet is having a blast so far during Chanukah. We have been lighting candles each and every day in school as a class, singing songs, putting on Chanukah plays, and the children have even been lighting their own chanukiot during center time. The Chanukah spirit is definitely in the air!

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8! Addition is a piece of cake!

How many ways can you make the number 8!? In honor of the 8 days of chanukah, Gan Aleph put their addition skills to the test! We sat as a group and experimented with 8 candles. The children worked together to take 1 candle and figure out how many more candles they need to make the number 8. We used numbers and math signs to help us create different math sentences to go with our candle equations. When we finished all 9 ways to make the number 8, we read The Eight Nights: A Chanukah Counting Book, by Jane Bearman. During center time, we reinforced this lesson with an individual addition chart.
