Building for the Chicks!

Our eggs have hatched and we have 6 adorable baby chicks! The children were so excited to watch them hatch. We have learned to take care of them. Everyday we feed them and make sure that they have plenty of water. The chicks have grown quickly and are no longer in the incubator. They have a new home and we can play with them.

The children spent several days planning and building a house for them. The house has several rooms with labels. They put the chicks in the house and are very excited to watch them explore all of the rooms!

Lag B'Omer Festivities

Despite the gloomy weather, Lag B'Omer was lots of fun! We had a scavenger hunt which led us all around the school, and ended with relay races with Coach Bill in the gym on Tuesday morning. After the children collected twigs and branches, we came back to our classroom for a "bonfire" with Ganon Bet. We ate s'mores and sang songs together around the fire.

Fun Day at the Newark Museum

We had a great time at the Newark Museum on Wednesday! After a fun bus ride, we landed at the planetarium where the children learned about constellations and the night sky. We enjoyed an early lunch and then began exploring the museum. The children saw some old fire engines and firefighting equipment from the 1800's in the Fire Museum. We then went to the hands-on money exhibit, saw some mummies and pyramids in the Egyptian gallery, and some Native American costumes and pottery. Our favorite section was the Hall of Science where we saw florescent rocks, cave animals, dinosaur bones, and real fossils! A fun time was had by all!

Geologists in Ganon Bet

The little geologists of Ganon Bet can tell you what causes a rock to change its shape and that a fossil is an impression made in the earth that hardens. They made their own fossils using their hands and feet.

Happy Birthday Israel!!

We sang happy birthday to Israel in our classroom on Tuesday and blew out the candles on the delicious blue and white cake which we decorated in the form of an Israeli flag with the number 63! We then went outdoors and danced in the fields along with the entire school to the music of BaRock Orchestra. Afterwards, we watched a special Daglanut performance by the 7th grade girls, and sang Hatikva and other songs together.
We then returned to the early childhood wing for our simulated flight to Israel. We boarded the El Al airplane along with the other classes. Rabbi Penn piloted our plane, and after a smooth landing in Israel we began to visit the different cities. Each early childhood classroom was transformed into a different city or place in Israel. The children danced in Tel Aviv, played in the sand in Eilat, hiked in Ein Gedi, ate in the shuk, made jewelry in Tzvat, and visited the Kotel in Yerushalayim. We also enjoyed a fun and delicious barbeque outdoors.
All in all, it was a fun-filled (and thoroughly exhausting!) day of touring, creating, exploring, and learning all about our Jewish homeland.

Yerushalayim Shel Zahav

After learning that Yerushalayim is called the "City of Gold", the children painted golden bricks for the model of the Kotel we now have in our classroom. They took turns inserting "kvitlach" between the bricks with special thoughts they wanted to share with Hashem. Now when we daven, we face East towards our Kotel and Yerushalayim!

Yom Ha'atzmaut at Yavneh!!!

The weather was glorious and the fields of Yavneh were covered in a sea of blue and white. What a special day it was today at Yavneh! We celebrated the 63rd birthday of Israel in a very big way. We danced on the fields outside to the music of BaRock Orchestra. The Early Childhood joined together with the rest of the school for a celebration unlike any other this entire year! We watched the seventh grade girls perform a special daglanut and sang "Hatikvah" together with the entire school. We were all treated to a yummy BBQ picnic lunch. After this school wide celebration we returned to our ECD wing where we boarded our "flight" to Israel. And what a memorable trip it was! It began with Rabbi Penn (our pilot) and singing songs on the flight. We saw so many cities on our trip to Israel. We danced in Tel Aviv, wrote notes to put in the Kotel in Yerushalayim and made our own one-of-a-kind jewelry in Tzfat. We ate in a cafe and squeezed juice in the Shuk. We went on a water hike in Ein Gedi and completed the day with refreshing smoothies on the beach in Eilat. A wonderful and memorable time was had by all! Special thanks to all of our parents who helped out at the BBQ! Chag Sameach to all!

ACE OF CAKES

Gan Daled is busy preparing for Yom Ha'atzmaut. We were excited to have Max Zurkovsky's mother, Tamara, come into our class to decorate a cake with us. Mrs Zurkovsky taught us how to make flowers on a cake. With her help, we used our new skill to make our cake look like an Israeli flag.

Otto the Auto

The entire Early Childhood had a visit on Thursday from a small talking car named Otto. Otto came to Yavneh with his good friend officer Jimmy Teehan from the Paramus Police department. Many of the children recognized Officer Jimmy as he is our school wide D.A.R.E. officer in the grades. Otto is a talking remote controlled car supplied by AAA in Bergen County to educate school children about safety on the roads. Otto and Officer Jimmy presented to the children all about being a safe pedestrian and following safety rules when crossing the street. The children were shown a short film clip as well.

Counting Our Way to Har Sinai

Some of the children in Ganon Aleph did some painting with their feet this week! After dipping their feet in their paint color of choice, they walked on long sheets of white paper. They then used their fine motor skills to cut out their footprints. We are using their footprints on our bulletin board to count the days between Pesach and Shavuot. We count the Omer in our classroom every day, and the chazan and chazanit X out the day on large charts in order to keep track of the day we are up to.
