Busy, Buzzy Bees

We have been busy around our room and we investigated "bees". the children designed and created special bee headbands. We dramatized the life cycle or a bee and how the bees gather pollen and necter and bring it back to the hive. we learned about the pollen pockets on the bee's leg. We tried to flap our "wings" and do a bee dance. We created "buzzy bee" the puppet. The children used their puppets during the day to tell the bee story.

While learning about Yom Kippur the children were challenged by the question:"What would you share with a friend?" They were excited to illustrate their ideas. We have published our first book called Shared Friends. While learning about Yom Kippur the children created "Buddy' bracelets to give to a friend.

Gan Daled is "buzzing" with activity

Gan Daled is " buzzing" with activity. We are listening to the music of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and are enjoying "The Flight of the Bumble Bee". The children had a chance to illustrate with yellow and black while the music was playing. We learned a song about bees and their jobs.

We are excited about learning the customs of Yom Kippur. We made puppets and learned about T'shuva, T'fillah, Tzedakah, Shofar and Yonah. We are proud of all the knowledge we have about the holidays.

Busy as Bees in Gan Aleph!

BZZZZZ.....BZZZZZZ......
Today, the children of Gan Aleph learned the process of how bees make honey! The children listened carefully to how bees gather nectar from flowers and chew on it all the way back to the hive! When they return to the hive, the bees pass the nectar to their worker bee friends. The worker bees place the nectar into honeycombs, which we now know are in the shape of a hexagon. After covering the cells with wax, over time the nectar turns into delicious honey!
We acted out the "honey making" process outside in Yavneh's beautiful grass field! Some children were bees while others were flowers! We even made a human hexagon where the queen bee lay eggs and the worker bees place the chewed up nectar! The children truly enjoyed playing their parts and look forward to reinacting this process again tomorrow in the drama center with their friends!

Gan Bet Happenings

We have been very busy getting to know each other. the children have been working on making "buddy bracelets" for their friends. We have been making special projects for Yom Kippur. The children are busy creating "big" fish and decorating them and they will be adding Yonah to their fish.
We have spent time exploring our classroom and all of the centers. We have also explored the school and all of the exciting places to visit.

Shana Tova

Gan Gimmel prepared for Rosh Hashanah through games, songs, books and crafts. We used our senses to taste, feel, smell, hear and see Rosh Hashanah in our classroom. The children are getting to know each other and are enjoying their time together. For Yom Kippur, Gan Gimmel is making a "friends" book with our friends' names, phone numbers and pictures so that we can call our friends when they are sick or for a playdate or to say "I'm sorry" if they need to.

Shhhh....don't tell, but tomorrow we will have 2 big boxes in our classroom....wondering what we will be making??? Stay tuned.......

Getting ready for Rosh Hashanah!

Gan Aleph had a great time getting ready for Rosh Hashanah. We baked honey cookies as a sweet treat. Many of the children created honey dishes in the shape of an apple.

On Monday the children were so excited to return to school. They regaled us with stories of hearing the shofar, going to shul and dipping apples in honey. We began the week by reviewing what the children knew about Yom Kippur. We read the book, Sneakers to Shul by Floreva Cohen. Gan Bet joined us to listen to the story of Yonah. Using puppets, a giant boat and a big fish, our morot described every exciting detail of the story. We learned a special "I'm sorry" song (to the tune of traditional Avinu Malkenu).

Wishing you and your family a K'tiva V'Chatimah Tova and an easy and meaningful fast!
We are having so much fun in GanD! Today we went to the computer lab.

Welcome Back!

The smiles on our faces show how excited we were to come back to school and share our Rosh Hashanah experiences with our new friends. We are busy bees exploring our classroom and preparing for Yom Kippur and Succot using our 5 senses. Looking forward to keeping you posted on all the fun we are having in Ganon Bet!
