Now you SEE IT. . . Now you DON'T!

A rainbow appeared and it didn't even rain

As part of our Purim celebration, Joe Fischer magically appeared in Yavneh's Beit Midrash. Joe began his magic show by pulling a "rainbow" from his mouth. The children were enthralled when he took coins from one of their ears and mouth and dropped them into a bucket.

Yea for the assistants!

A highlight of the show was when our own Adam Brandwein was called to the stage to assist. Adam was rewarded for his efforts with a balloon dog. As the show ended, all Early Childhood children were accounted for. None had disappeared. We had a  great time!

Moms Help Out in Ganon Aleph

We were so busy getting ready for Purim in Ganon Aleph.  Luckily, the moms are always willing to come in and help out!  Joseph's mom came to help the children decorate their groggers,

Ani's mom assisted the children in creating their beautiful mishloach manot baskets,

and Eden's mom helped the children measure, pour, mix, and make delicious hamantashen.

What would we do without all our helpful, creative, handy moms?!

Dental Health Month in Ganon Aleph

In honor of Dental Health Month, Dr. Feintuch (David's dad) came in to talk to the children about how to take good care of their teeth.  He showed them a funny video, played a game where they had to pick out foods that are good for your teeth and foods that are not so good for your teeth, and gave them special goody bags to bring home.

The Mishkan

Ganon Bet learned about the Keylim in the Mishkan. The children were divided up into 5 groups and given a picture of one of the Keylim that we learned about. They then had to work as a team to build that object out of blocks. It was a great excersize in teamwork and collaboration.

The first team built the Kiyor. The Kiyor had water in it that was used to wash the hands and feet of the Kohanim.

Team two built the Mizbeach. Bnai Yisrael brought Hashem presents on the Mizbeach. The Mizbeach had a ramp for the Kohen to walk up and down.

Team three built the Aron. Inside the Aron they kept the Luchot or Ten Commandments. On top of the Aron were two angels called Kruvim.
Team four built the Menorah. It was made out of gold and had 7 branches!

Team five built the Shulchan. The shulchan had 5 shelves and housed the Lechem Hapanim.

OPEN WIDE

We took a break from the number 4(Megillah,Mishloach Manot Matanot L’evyonim and Seudah), when Brian’s daddy, a pediatric dentist, came to visit us. Dr. Eddie told us about the magic number 3.

Brian and Dr. Eddie brushing BGROO's teeth

We use our teeth for 3 things – eating, talking and smiling. There are 3 things in our mouth to take care of – teeth, gums and the tongue. BGROO taught us that we have 3 sides of a tooth to brush – front, back and top. We need to brush 3 times a day. Gan Daled learned 3 things. Dr. Eddie is the nicest, funniest and most lovable dentist.

Once There Was a Very Busy Class, and Gan Bet Was Its Name, Sir!

We've had our fair share of special visitors in Gan Bet to help us in our preparations for Purim!

Atara's daddy came in and allowed us to expereince a real Megillat Esther with many of our senses...
"The Megillah is smoother on the inside from using it!"

"Feel how the letters are raised on the 'klaf'!"

"Hey, there are no nekudot!"

He read from a very old Megillah given to him by his Zayde and we got to practice making noise when we heard Haman's name...

"Boo, Haman!"

Shlomo's Eema came to make Purim character puppets with us...

...and Joey's mommy baked hamentashen with us!

We even had a surprise baker....

 MORAH SHANI!!!

Chag Purim Sameach!

Sledding on Yavneh's Hills

The abundance of snow gave us an opportunity to have some sledding fun on the hills of Yavneh.  Now that it's melting, we're looking forward to the next snowfall!

Ms. Terry Visits Ganon Aleph

As an extension of our unit on nutrition, Ms. Terry from Yavneh's kitchen came to our class to talk about healthy snacks and alternatives at lunchtime.  She brought in yummy samples for the children to try out.

Savta Susan And The Grogger Production

Savta and Noah

Gan Daled had a special treat when Susan Rosenbaum, the Early Childhood Director at the Forest Hills Jewish Center came to Gan Daled. Most importantly, she is Noah's savta. She graciously helped the children prepare for Purim by making groggers with them.

Jonathan and Carrie holding their groggers

The class used paper towel rolls and made grogger puppets using different types of decorations which they glued on the rolls.

Sydney J. with her grogger

They cannot wait to use their groggers during the Megillah reading.

Clowning Arouind in Gan Daled

Poppy and Sacha
Seymour Wigod, Sacha's grandfather, visited us just in time school in order to become a clown and "make people happy". Sashi, his clown name, does not work in a circus, but rather, entertains children in Valley, Holy Name, and St Joseph's hospitals.

Applying clown make-up

The famous rope trick

"Poppy" Wigod dressed in his costume and put on his clown make-up for the mesmerized children. He performed several tricks including extracting balloons from Rabbi Penn's ears. There was an enthusiastic response from Gan Daled for an encore of Sashi's rope trick which he graciously performed. What a great way to start the month of Adar!
What's that in Rabbi Penn's ear?

More and less, bigger and smaller!

ABC's & 1 2 3's by Morah Shani
Partnering with Parents
Ready to build a snowman and do a little engineering???
It takes practice and learning to understand how big the base of the snowman should be, and the relative sizes of the other two snowballs. Be prepared to let children try to put a large head on top, then figure out why it didn't stay on. While building, use the words "more" and "less," as well as "bigger" and "smaller" to help build these important scientific and mathematical concepts.
