Can You Find the Pattern?

The ability to identify, extend, and create patterns is an important math skill in kindergarten. In Gan Bet, the children used many hands-on materials to help them learn more about patterns. Some of these included beads and basic school supplies. The children worked in pairs to begin and extend various patterns. They challenged each other to continue
the pattern, enjoying their shared work and ideas.

Best Kept Secret of Raising Great Kids

Want to know one of the best ways to raise responsible, independent, self-reliant children? Put them to work!! Children thrive on the opportunity to contribute to the well-being of the class or family by performing meaningful chores. Accomplishing these chores successfully brings about a healthy sense of self-esteem (I can do it!) and self-worth (I'm needed!). Chores enable children to take some control over their environment and to build life skills.

Class jobs are assigned weekly in our early childhood classes, to engage children in meaningful work. Our students learn to take responsiblity for their belongings, their actions, class materials and each other. At any given time, children can be seen holding a door open for each other, setting tables, distributing snacks, cleaning up messes, and putting away toys. They learn the value of cooperation and the joys of belonging to a well organized, smoothly functioning classroom.

Give your children the chance to do mitzvot (kibud av v'am), build skills, and grow up healthy. Put them to work!

Building Shushan, One Block at a Time

Gan Gimmel brought Shushan to life in our block corner today! Working cooperatively is a valuable learning experience and can be challenging at the same time. With many "good ideas", the children constructed Achashverosh's palace, including his bed (with the king who couldn't sleep), a table and chairs for Esther's party for the king and Haman and a throne all made out of Lego.

Part 1-Getting Ready For Our Siyum

In anticipation of our Siyum of Beresheit, the first book of the Torah, the children baked a Torah shaped cake.

They used their math skills to count and measure the necessary ingredients. In a cooperative effort they mixed the dough into the proper consistency and poured it into tins. The result; a delicious cake ready for our celebration.

It was rewarding to see the children use their social, fine and gross motor skills as well as their verbal communication to work together and produce a delicious treat in honor of the Torah.

Busy with Puzzles in Ganon Aleph

The children in Ganon Aleph are especially talented at putting together large floor puzzles. It is exciting to watch them work cooperatively to complete each one. This morning our floor was covered with puzzles!
