Gan Daled integrated the study of Georgia O’Keefe with spring. As we witnessed the blooming of the leaves on trees and the flowers popping through the ground, we learned about  one of the most significant artists of the 20^th century.

We read Georgia O’Keeffe by Mike Venezia and My Name Is Georgia by Jeanette Winter. Georgia O’Keeffe was inspired by nature and loved to paint beautiful pictures of flowers and the outdoors where she lived. Gan Daled made the connection of her flower pictures to Shavuot. The children were very excited to create their own floral masterpieces in O’Keeffe’s style.

In celebration of Rosh Chodesh Sivan, Early Childhood had a suprise when an ice cream truck came to Yavneh. The children could choose their favorite treat. Thank you Morah Shani and Yavneh Academy!

THE EARTH - We Dig It!

The insects have descnended on Gan Daled.

In celebration of Earth Day, Gan Daled read "Too Much Trash" in our Let's Find Out/Weekly Reader. The magazine contains a graph showing how long it takes for a banana, a sock and a bottle to decompose, The class was excited as they remembered their own experiment to predict how long it will take objects that we "planted" to decompose.

Each child designed a poster for Earth Day describing how they can help our Earth. They love seeing their hard work displayed in our room.

 In recognition of Earth Day, we put the concepts of reusing and recycling to use as the class constructed insects from recyclables. The children remembered that insects have 6 legs, 3 body parts and often fly. They used their creativity and many materials to design their insects. The results were amazing!!





REFLECTIONS ON MONET

The Bridge at Giverney

Gan Daled learned about the Impressionist painter, Claude Monet. His style of painting received its name from his famous painting Impression:Sunrise.

Monet loved to paint reflections. The children emulated his style as they painted scenes with water and reflections. They used both water colors and tempera paint to achieve this effect. The resulting "masterpieces" were very impressive and worthy of hanging in any art gallery.

Pablo's People

Ally creating her Picasso

Gan Daled has been learning about the great artist and sculptor, Pablo Picasso. The class was excited to hear about his Blue Period and his Rose period.

Picasso originated Cubism. When he created a Cubist portrait he tried to show all sides of the face at once. This made the eyes and noses of his portraits appear to be in the wrong place.

The children used their fine motor skills to create portraits in Picasso's style.
We all enjoyed the results.

Chazak Chazak!

In preparation for our Chazak Kiddush, the yeladim of Gan Daled reviewed a couple of parshiot so that they could draw the main ideas from each of the parshiot.  They practiced singing  songs for our presentation and boy, did they rock!!! The yeladim made a delicious Israeli salad from the peeling and cutting of the cucumbers to mixing the dressing ingredients. The children dressed in their Shabbat best and along with all of their friends from the other ECD classes, they enjoyed the Kiddush from start to finish!
