Counting the Omer in Ganon Aleph

Some of the children in Ganon Aleph  had fun dipping their feet in paint and creating footprints which we are using to keep track of the days between Pesach and Shavuot.  They are learning that each Hebrew letter has a numerical value, and are becoming quite proficient at counting in Hebrew!

Gan Daled integrated the study of Georgia O’Keefe with spring. As we witnessed the blooming of the leaves on trees and the flowers popping through the ground, we learned about  one of the most significant artists of the 20^th century.

We read Georgia O’Keeffe by Mike Venezia and My Name Is Georgia by Jeanette Winter. Georgia O’Keeffe was inspired by nature and loved to paint beautiful pictures of flowers and the outdoors where she lived. Gan Daled made the connection of her flower pictures to Shavuot. The children were very excited to create their own floral masterpieces in O’Keeffe’s style.

Yummy Treat in Ganon Aleph

As a pre-summer and a follow-up Shavuot activity, Ms. Terry from the kitchen came to our classroom to show the children how to use healthy ingredients to make some delicious smoothies.  This was a fun, educational and YUMMY activity!

Chag Shavuot Same'ach!

          We have counted 49 days until Matan Torah and are excited to celebrate Chag HaShavuot.
We  hope you enjoy the plant  that your children have taken care of and nurtured in our classroom to bring home in honor of Shavuot.

We made  and decorated Har Sinai.



We put the themes of flowers and Har Sinai together and made our own flowers and vase. The vase  was decorated in pretty colors to remind us of Har Sinai. Then the children wrote the Aseret Hadibrot that were given on Har Sinai. We hope that the flowers enhance your Shavuot table. Chag Same'ach!

 

Cheesecakes for Shavuot

The children in Ganon Aleph learned about the custom of eating dairy foods on Shavuot because B'nai Yisrael had just received the Torah and did not yet know about the laws of kashrut.  We made our own yummy individual cheesecakes and are including the recipe so you can make them at home!  Chag Samayach!!

     2 8 oz. cream cheese
     3 eggs
     3/4 cup sugar
     1 tsp. vanilla
     1/2 cup flour
 Line muffin tin with Oreo cookie.  Beat cream cheese with other ingredients until fluffy.  Bake at 350 until firm.  Enjoy!

Rosh Chodesh Treat!

In honor of Rosh Chodesh Sivan, Morah Shani made arrangements for an ice cream truck to make a stop in the Yavneh parking lot, and we all got to choose our own ice cream treats!!  What a great pre-Shavuot treat!

Ganon Bet Creating A Special Treat for Shavuot

First we added the mix.

Then we added the eggs, water and oil.

 Ganon Bet worked very hard on creating a special Shavuot center piece!

Ella's Mom came to help us make chocolate flowers.

Next we made cupcake pops.

Then we added sticks to our cupcake pops.

Colorful icing completes our cupcake pops.

Everything looks yummy! We're looking forward to putting our special treats together on Monday for Shavuot.

Counting the Omer in Ganon Aleph

Ganon Aleph has been counting the Omer in our classroom each day since we returned to school after our Pesach break.  Some of the  children enjoyed dipping their feet in paint to create footprints which they then cut out to use on our bulletin board for counting.  We will be counting the footprints which lead from Mitzrayim to Har Sinai, and in this way we will keep track of the number of days that pass from Pesach until Shavuot.
