Ganon Bets Makes Scrumptious Treats for Parshat Beshalach-Shabbat Shira

What would you eat if your food could taste like anything? Ganon Bet made delicious Mon cookies that tasted like candy, challah,  and apples.  After learning about how the birds ate the mon that were placed outside on Shabbat, we  made edible birds nests from chow mein noodles and melted chocolate. We placed jelly beans inside the nest too. The children enjoyed the yummy snacks throughout the week.

To show HaKarat HaTov to the birds for eating the Mon, we made bird feeders to be placed outside our homes this Shabbat.

Bereishit Fair

Yesterday, the EC classes initiated our first ever Bereishit Fair! This amazing learning experience was completely developed and implemented by the collaboration of our model team of teachers. Each classroom was set up to represent a different day of Creation, along with hands-on projects and activities. For Day 1, children made shadow puppets and frosted black and white cookies.

On Day 2, a water table was set up for play, and children made clouds with shaving cream.

Children planted seeds on Day 3, and made collages of trees and grass. Day 4's classroom had stars projected on the ceiling, and children created original designs of stars, moon, and sun. For Day 5, real fish were available for observation, and children played a matching game with various types of birds and fish.

On Day 6, the children dressed in animal costumes, and held races and dances.

Back in their own classrooms, children learned about Day 7, our very own Shabbat, which of course we celebrate every week in school.

Connecting Torah to Nature

Gan Aleph explored Parashat Beshalach this week. We learned the story of how Hashem sent birds to eat up the extra mann from the ground in the parsha. The children painted their own bird feeders from orange juice cartons. They beaded the handles. The children can't wait to hang these bird feeders outside!

In this week's Parashat Beshalach, the children learned that Moshe told B'nai Yisrael to collect two portions of "mon" on Friday because none would fall on Shabbat. Datan and Aviram do not trust Moshe and spread "mon" on the ground early Shabbat morning so that the people would think that Moshe is not telling the truth, but the birds came and ate it up! To show our gratitude to the birds for helping Moshe, the children made bird feeders to hang outside so that the birds can have a yummy meal!
