Ms. Terry Visits Ganon Bet

In honor of Thanksgiving Ms. Terry visited Ganon Bet. We discussed how we get vitamins from fruits and vegetables. We know that vitamins help keep us healthy.

Ms. Terry brought a juicer to our classroom. We juiced pineapples, carrots, celery, strawberries, apples, cantaloupe and cucumbers.

Yaakov's Yummy Lentil Soup

In this week's Parashat Toldot, the children in Ganon Aleph learned about Eisav returning from a hunting trip so famished that he traded his rights as a first-born for a bowl of lentil soup.  After the children chopped up all the vegetables themselves (even the onions!) we cooked our own pot of yummy lentil soup.  The delicious aroma wafted through the halls of Yavneh, drawing many visitors who were following the scent!

We Love Morah Rina!

Ganon Aleph looks forward to our daily visits from Morah Rina.  She teaches new Ivrit vocabulary in fun and exciting ways.  This week the children have been learning the Hebrew names for different vegetables.

As a culminating activity, after each child correctly identified the Hebrew word for their vegetable of choice, they made a bracha and ate it!  What a delicious and healthy way to learn Hebrew!

Ganon Aleph Gardeners

The children in Ganon Aleph were so busy in the ECD garden one beautiful, sunny day this week.  They pulled the weeds and tidied up our plot of land, and then picked some of the vegetables that grew over the summer, including this enormous pumpkin!

Working in the Garden

The beautiful spring weather motivated us to do some weeding and planting in the Early Childhood garden.  After the children pulled out the weeds and cleaned around Ganon Aleph's designated area, we transferred the vegetables that began growing in our classroom at Tu B'Shevat.  At that time the children had been bringing in seeds from fruits and vegetables they were eating at home, and we planted these in cups in our classroom.  They have since outgrown their original planters, and now was a perfect time to transfer them to our garden.  We can't wait to see what vegetables we get!!

Vegetable People

We have been busy learning the brachot for different foods. This week we focused on the bracha HaEtz. The children learned when to use the bracha. They investigated many different fruits and vegetables to find out which needed the bracha HaEtz. As a culmination to our investigation the children created vegetable people or vegetable faces. They were excited about creating their vegetable people but the best part was saying the bracha and then eating all of the vegetables!

A Tree Grows in Ganon Aleph

As a follow-up to Tu B'Shevat, the children in Ganon Aleph did some planting! They collected seeds from different fruits and vegetables that they had eaten at home. We planted these seeds this week, along with seeds from flowers, grass, pumpkins, and beans. Our plants are on our windowsill, and we are patiently waiting to see what will come up first!
